FAQ about the Sperm Donor program
Yes. While most donors are motivated by a desire to help others build families, we understand that the time and effort involved is significant. To recognize this, we offer:
Stipends for each step of the application and screening process—typically totaling over $600
Additional bonuses for completing optional profile elements (up to another $500)
Complimentary health services, including:- Genetic carrier screening
- Periodic STI testing
- Wellness checks and physical exams
- Fertility evaluations and semen analysis
These benefits are designed to support our donors’ health and ensure a thoughtful, well-supported experience throughout the process.
We provide payment to our donors on a bi-monthly basis (1st and 15th of each month). We provide physical checks to our donors in office or by mail, whichever is preferable.
We ask all prospective sperm donors to complete a thorough screening process, which typically takes 1 to 3 months and can usually be completed in just a few appointments.
Once you are approved and become an active donor, we require a minimum 6-month commitment with weekly donations. Each sample must meet our standards for sperm concentration and quality to be accepted.
Taking breaks is completely understandable and allowed. We’re committed to offering our donors flexibility to fit their personal schedules, making the donation process as stress-free and convenient as possible.
If you need to cancel or reschedule a collection appointment, or plan a short break due to illness, travel, school, or other reasons, simply notify your sperm donor coordinator or the andrology lab as soon as possible. You will receive all necessary contact information once you become an active donor.
We recommend that all sperm donors live within commuting distance of one of our two offices. This is because we require a minimum of one in-office donation per week.
It’s important that you’re able to arrive on time for your scheduled appointments, as we do not accept walk-ins for sperm donations.

This thorough testing process ensures that our donors meet the highest standards for health, safety, and genetic quality — providing peace of mind to both donors and recipient families.
Sperm donation in the United States is strictly regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure the safety of both donors and recipients. These regulations require thorough screening to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases and to maintain the highest standards of medical safety.
In addition to FDA requirements, our process aligns with ethical guidelines set forth by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), which emphasize donor transparency and responsible practices. Prospective families rely on detailed medical and genetic information (while maintaining donor anonymity) to make informed decisions when selecting a donor. This transparency also supports the well-being of children conceived through donation, helping them understand their unique genetic heritage.
Our comprehensive application and screening process is designed to protect everyone involved—donors, recipients, and future families—and to uphold the highest standards of care and ethics in fertility services.
When you submit your initial application, you are assigned a unique donor code that is used to store all of your information. This includes your test results and official documents held both by Sperm Bank Inc. and any external testing laboratories we work with.
We strictly limit access to your personal information to a select group of trained professionals who adhere to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations and our internal confidentiality protocols. These measures ensure your privacy and anonymity are protected throughout the entire donation process.
We are transparent in this area and happy to share non-identifying information if a donor requests it. However, we do not automatically notify donors of each birth. This policy is in place out of consideration for a donor’s emotional well-being, as some may prefer not to receive ongoing updates. If you’re ever curious or wish to know the outcome of your donations, just let us know — we’ll do our best to provide the information you're comfortable receiving.
There are several reasons why Sperm Bank Inc. may decline a potential sperm donor, including:
- Not meeting eligibility criteria such as age, travel history, or personal/family medical history
- Sperm concentration or quality falling below our minimum standards
- Positive results on infectious disease screenings
- Being a carrier of certain genetic conditions
- Recommendations for deferment based on the counseling session evaluation
If you have questions about your status, please feel free to contact our donor coordination team for more information.
